Colour Trends

13th September 2017

With London Fashion Week 2017 in mind – it runs from Friday 15th September to Tuesday 19th September – we’ve been busy checking out upcoming trends, looking specifically at seasonal colour palettes which are super important for predicting strong trends in the fashion industry. It turns out that we are bang on the money this season with our caramelly nude and rosy blush tones. Phew! We got it right!

Colour trends are every bit as important for fashion designers as the materials they use and the structure and styling details that they put into the clothes, shoes and accessories in their collections. Designers use data provided by agencies which specialise in predicting colour trends when they’re deciding which shades and tones to use in their collections. Even before they’ve put pen to paper, designers have chosen a working colour palette – way before their creations hit the international catwalks or feature in glossy magazines.

When it comes to finding colour inspiration for her own designs, Di keeps a regular eye on the famous Pantone range of colours, to see which colours are trending for the fashion industry – rose quartz, pale dogwood and hazelnut are three of her favourites.

Designers who produce fashion, homewares and interiors use the Pantone range to specify colours and develop palettes for their collections – so Pantone is an important go-to reference for interior designers, paint companies and textile, ceramics and furniture designers – as well as for Di and everyone involved in the fashion industry.

Di is hooked on Pinterest and uses it as a virtual pin board for all the things that inspire her, including her favourite colours and it’s a great way to save a collection of images for Di to refer to when she’s designing her beautiful bridal shoes. Di collects photographs of all sorts of things such as luxurious fabrics, interiors and fashion photographs, as well as pinning swatches of colour that catch her eye.

Di also loves Instagram and regularly posts inspirational photos of all her favourite things – from flowers in her dad’s garden (his dahlias inspired the names of the designs in her latest collection!) to beautiful cocktails, some of the meals she enjoys in restaurants on her travels and the amazing plates of food she makes herself in her kitchen when she’s back at home.
